During gamescom 2013 Sony revealed that more than 1 million PS4 pre-orders had been placed globally, and now the platform holder has announced its intention to sell a total of 5 million PS4s by the end of the current fiscal year (i.e. March 31st, 2014).
The announcement was made by Sony Computer Entertainment president, Andrew House, during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference. The CEO’s statement should come as good news to PlayStation fans since it indicates that Sony is confident it can ship at least 5 million PS4s worldwide during the first five months following the console’s introduction. The PS4 will launch in most Western territories during November and then land in many Asian regions during December. Japan will be one of the last countries to get the next-gen console when it launches there on February 22nd, 2014.
