The online portion of Rockstar’s next open-world action game opus, Grand Theft Auto V, may only be getting potential players very excited here in 2013, but in an interview with Game Informer the developer has revealed that ideas for GTA Online have been floating in their collective minds since the days of Grand Theft Auto 3 way back in 2001.
President of Rockstar North, Leslie Benzies, said of the online mode:
“We’ve always wanted to create a world with the complexity of a singleplayer Grand Theft Auto game with the addition of real players. We wanted a world where people could spend years without getting bored of playing the same content over and over.
“I think we’ve managed to achieve something very close to our dream.”
While Grand Theft Auto V is due out next week on September 17th, GTA Online will only become available two weeks after launch at which time Rockstar will continue to set about the task of adding more content and activities to the innovative multiplayer matches:
“We’ve set this up so there are no limitations,” said Benzies. “The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we’ve got. We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not… But we’ve got a bunch of old stuff that we’re toying with using.”
500 Missions and More
Also uncovered on the pages of Game Informer are more details regarding GTA Online, including the fact that this part of the game will feature over 500 missions for you to take on either solo or in a team, while the events of GTA Online take place after the story of GTA V. Female character can be used in GTA Online, too, and if you get robbed by another player, you’ll be able to put out a bounty on that player’s head to exact revenge.
No more scooping of Game Informer, though, if you’re able you should pick up the latest issue of the magazine for its enormous six-page hands-on preview of GTA Online.
