It’s been hinted at before by the development studio at Capcom Vancouver, and following on from the chance to team up with a buddy in Dead Rising 2 it has been revealed that the next game in the series will also allow players to join forces online while trying to survive undulating hordes of zombies.
The co-operative feature of Dead Rising 3 will see a second player take on the role of new character, Dick, while the primary player continues the adventures of protagonist Nick Ramos.
Speaking to the Business Post, Capcom said that players joining the game of a friend who is further along the story than they are will still be able to take part in (and complete) missions, which will then remain completed if they hop back into their own game – you won’t have to replay bits of the narrative if you’ve already finished them while jumping back and forth in co-op.
Intriguingly, when playing in co-op in Dead Rising 3′s enormous open world, players won’t need to stay in the same area, or even roughly the same vicinity, as one another as Capcom is trying to allow you to run off and explore while having the freedom to join back up with your partner when in need. Due to the streaming nature of Dead Rising 3 (where environments are seamlessly loaded in as you move around the world), there will naturally be some sort of limit to how far you can roam from your friend, but at least you won’t be punished for straying too far.
That being said, there will be specific elements in Dead Rising 3 that are built for co-operative play, like some of the vehicles that require a driver and someone to control the weapons.
Seven Deadly Sins
The super enemy ‘Psychopaths’ of Dead Rising 3 have also been fleshed out with a few more details from Capcom, and senior producer Jason Leigh explained these monstrously cruel humans’ origins:
“The story behind the psychos is that they are survivors who have gone crazy in this outbreak, for whatever reason. Their darkest monster is now allowed to come out. Since they are all modelled after the seven deadly sins, they tie in thematically together. I can’t tell you how difficult it was to come up with Sloth.”
The Psychopaths will once again act as bosses in this edition of Dead Rising, and the character representing ‘Greed’ has been revealed, who you can take a look at below:
Look forward to our hands-on preview of Dead Rising 3 soon, where we were egged on by a developer from Capcom Vancouver to destroy hundreds of zombies with a range of ludicrous weapons and vehicles.
In the meantime, you can get up-to-speed with our previous preview and find out about the kinds of features that the developer is trying to squeeze into this Xbox One exclusive zombie survival game.
