One of my favourite assurances on Xbox LIVE Marketplace (or… the Xbox Games Store) is that I’m guaranteed to be able to try out a demo for every Xbox LIVE Arcade game that’s released on the service. The demos are usually pretty short and require a download of the full game, but at least I’m given some sort of indication of whether or not I may enjoy the game should I cash in my MS Points (or… real currency).
So it’s a bit disappointing to hear that Microsoft won’t be enforcing this policy in the future for Xbox One, as developers and publishers won’t be required to put out a demo for digitally released games.
Speaking during a recent AMA (Ask Me Anything) hosted by IGN, Microsoft’s Marc Whitten said:
“Not all games will have demos like Xbox Live Arcade games have had on Xbox 360. That said, we are going to work on lots of ways to make it easy for you to find and try new games on the service.”
What do you think of this news? Have XBLA demos helped you decide on your purchase, or are demos a thing of the past?
