When The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was unveiled at Space World 2001 it drew criticism from some circles for its cel-shaded, cartoony visuals and young Link – elements which were in stark contrast to a tech demo featuring a realistically styled duel between Ganondorf and Link which had been developed to showcase the power of the GameCube a year earlier.
However, over time The Wind Waker has become one of the most cherished entries in The Legend of Zelda series, thanks in no small part to its bold art direction which led to one of the most visually striking open-world games of the last decade.
Nintendo recently released a new video for the game’s upcoming remaster, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, comparing its spiffy 1080p graphics to those of the GameCube original. It’s clear from this comparison that many areas look brighter than before due to bloom lighting and the colours also appear a lot more vibrant rendered in HD. Take a look below:
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will be released on October 4th in the US and European territories, exclusively for Wii U. Head over here for El33tonline’s previous coverage of this highly anticipated remaster.
