Gamescom 2013 has come to a close and the final report shows that over 340 000 visitors strolled the halls of the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany and celebrated the games on show for five exhibition days.
It was the first time in the history of European trade fairs for digital gaming that two companies, Sony and Microsoft, presented new game consoles that visitors were able to get hands-on for the first time worldwide.
Gamescom is the largest computer and videogames trade show in the world. This year over 635 exhibitors from 40 countries were present, taking up 140 000 square meters of exhibition space, which was sold out for the first time in gamescom history. These exhibitors presented over 400 world premiers which included the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The attendance figures showed a 23% increase from last year, with visitors and companies coming from 88 countries in the world and visitor tickets being sold-out in advance. 6000 journalists, 15% more than last year, from 61 countries covered the event live, including El33tonline’s own team from South Africa.
