Yesterday during Sony’s gamescom press conference the publisher announced that the PlayStation 4 would be launching in November.
Sony’s upcoming console will be released on November 15th in North America and November 29th in various territories in Europe. The system will launch in 32 countries this year, with notable exceptions on the publisher’s press release list being Japan, India and indeed South Africa.
It seems, however, that even though South Africa won’t get the new PS4 in November, the new console will launch in the country in 2013.
According to a statement from Mario Dos Santos, Chief Executive Officer at Ster Kinekor Entertainment (distributors of PlayStation in South Africa): “South Africa will be releasing the PS4 prior to Christmas, we are planned to go on the 6th of December 2013 due to the logistics of getting the stock to our shores.”
Dos Santos went on to discuss the price of the PS4: “The price point, although not officially set due to the uncertainty around the Rand exchange rate, is currently planned at an RRP of R 6 299 including VAT and it will not be beyond this for launch. Retail will be communicated to plan at these levels.”
What do you think of the launch date and price of the PS4? Will you be placing your pre-order for the new console?
