At Blizzard’s press conference at Gamescom on Wednesday, the company announced an upcoming expansion set for Diablo 3, titled Reaper of Souls. The expansion set features a new character type, a new act, a higher level cap, post-game loot runs and a bunch of changes to the loot system to make it better. All Diablo 3 players will benefit from the patch because Blizzard will also release a 2.0 patch to update the base game with the new systems. The expansion will be out in 2014.
The new hero is the Crusader, a melee character that can wield shield and swords, hammers and flails, very similar to the Paladin of previous games. A new Act will essentially extend the game by one third, but other improvements like a new level cap of 70 with new skills and, more particularly, Loot runs consisting of randomised dungeons that take 20 minutes to complete, will extend the game for those who have experienced everything the current game has to offer.
Some other new features were also mentioned, such as Transmogrification which allows you to change the look of your weapons and armour without affecting their stats, and the Loot 2.0 system, which sounds like it basically means less drops but more useful drops (ie less junk to full up your inventory or the bin).
