During EA’s gamescom press conference earlier this afternoon, developer PopCap Games announced that Plants vs Zombies 2 had passed 16 million downloads worldwide. This makes it the biggest mobile game launch in EA history.
The game also achieved one of the biggest opening weekends on the App Store ever for a mobile game title, achieving the top game position in 137 countries worldwide within just five days. Day one downloads of the game nearly doubled EA’s previous mobile record, showing just how popular the sequel is with fans across the world.
“We are grateful and delighted with the incredible reception Plants vs. Zombies 2 has received from consumers around the globe,” said Tony Leamer, Franchise Business Director for Plants vs. Zombies. “We certainly had high hopes for the game, but to see fans playing the game so quickly and in such huge numbers is truly amazing.”
