Nintendo has responded to The NPD Group’s sales report for the US videogame industry in July 2013, highlighting the fact that the 3DS was the best-selling console in the US for a third consecutive month.
The publisher noted that the 3DS continues to build momentum in 2013, with a strong second month for Animal Crossing: New Leaf continuing to drive sales of the 3DS. Animal Crossing: New Leaf sold 150 000 units for the month (physical and digital units combined), with its lifetime sales total now standing at over 660 000 units.
Sales of the 3DS hardware increased by 14% year-on-year, while software increased by 45 %.
Other interesting figures for software sales included the lifetime total for Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for the 3DS now standing at 820 000 units. New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U meanwhile has passed 830 000 lifetime sales.
Nintendo also noted that EarthBound is off to a “great start.” The title launched on July 18th for the Virtual Console service on the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U. According to the publisher only two eShop titles (New Super Luigi U and Pikmin 3) have generated more consumer spend in the same time period since launch.
We have a number of exciting 3DS and Wii U titles to look forward to in the coming months. These include The Wonderful 101 (Wii U, Sept. 15), Pokémon X and Pokémon Y (Nintendo 3DS, Oct. 12), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U, October), Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U, November), The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (Nintendo 3DS, November) and Super Mario 3D World (Wii U, December).
