Just a little earlier today, Codemasters began teasing that the team behind racing games like GRID 2 and the Colin McRae DiRT rally series would have something to announce tomorrow, June 27th. Speculation quickly arose, and hopes with them, regarding the possibility of a next generation version of the long running rally franchise.
It seems as though Apple’s iTunes service has outed details of Codemasters’ next racer early, however, revealing the game to be a new title for iOS devices.
“Hit the dirt as the ultimate off-road racing game experience, Colin McRae Rally, comes to iPhone and iPad for the very first time,” reads the description on iTunes.
This version of the game is based on Colin McRae 2.0 and features thirty rally stages across 130km of track, with locations including the Australian outback, the “dramatic climbs” of the mountains of Greece, as well as the “twisty” roads of Corsica. Here’s what else you’ll get in Colin McRae iOS:
“Get behind the wheel of legendary rally cars, the Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, Lancia Stratos and Colin McRae’s Ford Focus. Pace notes read by professional rally co-driver Nicky Grist help you fully commit through each and every stage.”
“With the critically acclaimed Colin McRae Rally handling, damage and physics model under the hood, feel the thrill of putting pedal to metal across different surface types and blast through beautiful, challenging environments.”
“Take on different game modes including quick races, full rallies and Championships and customise your experience with different controls schemes and views. Post your best time to the leaderboards and unlock achievements with full Game Center support.”
Are you disappointed that the teases from Codemasters weren’t related to a brand new Colin McRae rally racer for consoles, or are you looking forward to trying this out on iOS?
