During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation company president Satoru Iwata devoted a fair amount of time to discussing the Wii U’s ‘spring update’ that will arrive next week.
The system update introduces a number of requested features, including speed improvements to the Wii U’s operating system that shave precious seconds off various transitions such as exiting a game and returning to the main menu.
After the update you’ll be able to copy and move data between two USB drives, as well as auto-install software in the background and auto-patch games without having to start them up first. These tasks can also be performed while the Wii U is in standby mode.
Another new feature is being able to put the console into Wii/Legacy mode simply by holding down the B button during the startup screen.
We’ll keep you in the loop as far as the spring update’s exact release timing is concerned.
