Last month a rumour emerged that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was being co-developed by Sony as a PS4-exclusive and had been renamed to Final Fantasy XV.
Now the game’s director Tetsuya Nomura has added a degree of respectability to this rumour with recent comments he made on the inaugural episode of Square Enix Merchandise Radio.
According to Final Fantasy fansite Nova Crystallis, Nomura gave the following response (translated from Japanese) after being asked when new Final Fantasy Versus XIII details would be revealed:
“It’s a delicate situation within the company. The date for our next reveal is set and we are working toward preparing information for that. Perhaps the details as to why information couldn’t be released might be touched upon with the next information announcement.”
During the PlayStation Meeting held in February Square Enix promised that we would be seeing more Final Fantasy at this year’s E3 in June. Will the “next reveal” that Nomura mentions occur during this event?
We’d love to hear your theories regarding what has become of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Do Nomura’s latest comments fill you with hope that the original vision of the project is still intact? Let us know in the comments.
