News of something called Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon began kicking around last week with the release of a mysterious trailer accompanied by the launch of an excellent faux website that spoke about a made-up sci-fi 80s movie as though it were a real thing – it was April Fool’s Day, after all.
Blood Dragon, however, is real, cemented in our minds with the surfacing of debut screenshots last week, too. Questions remained about the game’s nature, but those queries have recently been answered.
According to an official listing on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a standalone downloadable title available on May 1st, and is, according to the description, ”the Kick-ass Cyber Shooter.” Here’s the rest:
“Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is the Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80’s VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who’s fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue.
“Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide.
Playing Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon doesn’t require a copy of Far Cry 3.”
We’re still waiting for the official announcement by Ubisoft, but you can take all of this as given.
