Rumour: Kojima confirms involvement in The Phantom Pain

Evidence has gradually been mounting that The Phantom Pain – a mysterious game first shown at last year’s Spike VGAs – is linked to Metal Gear creator and MGS: Ground Zeroes director Hideo Kojima.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that a new trailer for The Phantom Pain will be shown during GDC 2013, and now Kojima may have inadvertently or intentionally given us a first glimpse at what that trailer will entail.

The legendary game designer recently tweeted a photo (pictured above) highlighting the lens flare used during a section of a trailer he’s editing ahead of GDC. Interestingly, the six minute-long trailer is titled “TPP-GDC2013-720p-ESRB” and confirms that Kojima is the producer, game designer and director of whatever project the trailer is for. “TPP” could stand for “The Phantom Pain” and doesn’t exactly fit with Kojima’s current project – Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

Kojima will be giving a lecture entitled “Photorealism Through the Eyes of a FOX: The Core of Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes” this Wednesday during GDC so we won’t have to wait long to find out how exactly The Phantom Pain is related to Ground Zeroes (if at all).
