The Phantom Pain confirmed to run on FOX Engine, new trailer to be shown at GDC

We haven’t heard or seen anything new of The Phantom Pain since the game was unveiled at the Spike VGAs last December. Even the website for the game’s purported developer Moby Dick Studio hasn’t been updated since last year. Of course, many of us believe that there’s a simple explanation for this strange silence – The Phantom Pain is actually Hideo Kojima’s next Metal Gear Solid project which may or may not be tied to MGS: Ground Zeroes.

This hypothesis received added support last night when GameTrailers’ Geoff Keighley interviewed Moby Dick Studio’s ‘CEO’ Joakim Mogren whose first name is an anagram of ‘Kojima’.

During the interview Mogren – who bears more than a passing resemblance to a character from The Phantom Pain pictured above – showed off some new screenshots for the game featuring the logo of Kojima Productions’ FOX Engine, and stated that a new trailer for the game will be shown during GDC 2013 which runs from March 25th to March 29th:

“This year’s GDC show, I will have a new Phantom Pain trailer, and I can confirm that it will answer all of your questions.”

Hideo Kojima has previously confirmed that he’ll be giving a lecture at GDC discussing FOX Engine’s utilisation in Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. Will we see the new Phantom Pain trailer during that lecture or will it be shown at a separate event to maintain the sense of mystery currently surrounding the project?
