Online co-op mode announced for God of War: Ascension, reveal trailer insideWritten by: / / No Comments
Just as you thought you had every corner of God of War: Ascension covered, Santa Monica Studio has revealed that the game will feature a co-op time trial mode called “Trial of the Gods”.
This online multiplayer mode is designed for two players but can also be played solo. Local play will not be supported. Experience points and other awards gained for your multiplayer character in Trial of the Gods can be used in GoW: Ascension’s other multiplayer modes.
Here’s the mode’s official description as seen on the PlayStation Blog:
“In Trial of the Gods, the first two-player God of War co-op time trial mode, you and a friend will tag-team with your Champions to face five increasingly hard waves of mythological beasts, whilst surviving against the hourglass of Olympus.
“Over 15 types of enemies await you, including Satyrs, Cerberuses, Cyclopes, Gorgons, Juggernauts, and more deadly creatures. You will start with a set amount of time on the clock, and win time back with every beast you slay. Decimate a wave and you will be granted a Bonus Time Tiered Award (gold, silver, or bronze) based on how fast you cleared the wave. If you die or run out of time, you’ll have to start over again. If you reach the end of the fifth round, an epic boss awaits.”
If there was ever a test for Santa Monica Studio’s superb GoW: Ascension game engine then the Trial of the Gods mode is most definitely it. See how well it handles waves of enemies and multiple particle effects in the trailer below:
Besides announcing this co-op mode, the developer also released a new GoW: Ascension trailer showcasing the advantages of having your multiplayer character pledge allegiance to the sea god Poseidon. Aligning with this god grants your character improved defence as well as a range of ice-based magic and deadly physical abilities.
