Sony’s PlayStation Plus service was launched on June 29th, 2010, and has gone from strength to strength over the past few years. 2012 was a massive year for the service as it marked the introduction of the Instant Game Collection and the expansion of PlayStation Plus to PS Vita.

With PS4 on the horizon, many PlayStation fans are wondering if the service will expand to a third console and how it will be integrated with Sony’s new hardware.

Speaking with the PlayStation Blog, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President and CEO Jim Ryan said more details about PlayStation Plus on PS4 will be divulged at a future date but that it is a “core part” of the platform’s future:

“We’re very happy with the service that we’ve been able to offer with PS Plus. It’s been really well received ‒ the value is quite extraordinary and the take-up has trebled over the course of the past year. We definitely see that as a core part of the way forward. We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus but there will definitely be a prominent role to play for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape.”
