As The Last of Us’ release date draws ever closer Naughty Dog has released the first video in a development series which promises to explore key aspects of the game. According to the PlayStation Blog extended cuts of these videos will also be included on the game disc.

Episode 1 takes a look at how the game’s enemies – the Infected – were partially inspired by the parasitic fungus ‘ophiocordyceps unilateralis’ which preys on ants in the natural world. It took a while for Naughty Dog’s artists to come up with a unique design for the terror-inducing ‘Clickers’ who roam the game’s atmospheric environments but eventually the desired result was achieved.
