Mass Effect 3 has had a rough rollercoaster of a ride since release in early 2012 as fans simultaneously praised and heaped scorn on BioWare’s latest space opera action RPG.
Multiplayer? Those reckless endings (and BioWare’s attempt to explain them)? A watering down of what made Mass Effect 2 so great? Gamers are a tough audience to please, no doubt about it.
But. EA and BioWare have together forged ahead and tried to assuage Mass Effect fans with regular drops of downloadable content to add depth and options to multiplayer, as well as to flesh out the story of the game’s universe, and the publisher/developer pair will do both of these things again very soon.
Mass Effect 3: Citadel
On March 5th, BioWare will release Mass Effect 3: Citadel, a final campaign story for players to embark upon and to give you “one final, sentimental journey with Commander Shepard and their squad.”
Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series, Casey Hudson, said of Citadel:
“The team has poured heart and soul into Mass Effect 3: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3: Citadel. As the launch of these chapters near, the feeling around the studio is bittersweet.
“We have always been humbled and driven by the passion of our fans for the Mass Effect trilogy. We hope fans will enjoy spending more time with some of their favourite characters – we have certainly enjoyed spending time creating them. We’re excited to release this final send-off for the trilogy and move forward into the future of the Mass Effect universe.”
On March 5th and for 1200 MS Points / £11.99, Citadel will give you the chance to “explore and discover new locations across the vast, deep-space station” while reconnecting with some of your favourite characters from each of the Mass Effect games. Interested?
Mass Effect 3: Reckoning
On February 26th, however, Mass Effect 3: Reckoning will add new characters, weapons and upgrades to the game’s multiplayer mode. The pack will be available for free (until this time next year).
