This week’s Media Create hardware chart shows that sales are down by 22 percent week over week. The 3DS continues to dominate the console market in Japan, with the PS3 a distant second with 16 934 units sold. The two most recently released consoles on the chart – the Wii U and PS Vita – also happen to be among the poorest performers as a lack of new games and a relatively high price point keep consumers at arm’s length for the time being.
Wii U sales took another hit this week, falling from 12 185 units to just 10 744. This puts it slightly ahead of the PSP which will have been on the market for nine years this December.
The PS Vita will receive a price cut on February 28th so it will be very interesting to see how this affects consumer demand for Sony’s feature-rich handheld.
