February 2013 has seen the release of two of the scariest, most creepy games of the year, and chances are slim that any other games due out over the course of the next few months will be able to outstrip Dead Space 3 or Aliens: Colonial Marines as far as tension, suspense and raw frights are concerned. Which brings us to this Question of the Day:

What scares you the most in a game?

This query was suggested by Pieter de Bruyn, and he wants to know:

“With the release of Dead Space 3, I was sitting here and thinking, what makes you scared in a game like Dead Space, F.E.A.R., DOOM, Silent hill etc. Is it the atmosphere, the sound, the not knowing what is going to happen next…”

Well, what do you think? What is it about a horror game that’s able to make us grip the controller just a little more tightly, and even tempt us into hurling that controller from your sweaty palms after a big scare?
