The last time we got to take control of The Batman in the world of Gotham was in 2011 with Batman: Arkham City, and what a romp it was!
In a recent investor call following quarterly sales results, Batman license holder Time Warner has casually announced that the “next release” in the Arkham series of games is due for release in 2013!
During the call, Time Warner’s CFO and chief administrative officer, John K. Martin said (via a transcription by Yahoo Finance):
“And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”
Haven’t you ever heard the phrase “Leave luck to heaven,” Martin? Warner Bros. Games and Rocksteady will need to pull something very special out of the hat if the pair are to up the ante on Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City to help the Time Warner games division perform even better.
What direction will Rocksteady take with the next Arkham game, do you think? There are rumours doing the rounds that Rocksteady may not even be working on this third game, but an entirely new Batman property instead. There was a rumour in mid-2012 about a Silver Age version of the Batman games…
Will this third Arkham game open up the boundaries of the series’ ‘open-world’ settings even more? It wasn’t long ago that a number of domain registrations for a variety of Batman properties came to light – do any of these appeal?
