The 3DS is currently the console of choice in Japan if recent Media Create sales figures are to be believed, with over 10 million systems sold to date. It’s therefore little wonder that there have been so many best-selling games released for the handheld in recent times, with the likes of Animal Crossing: New Leaf and New Super Mario Bros. 2 effortlessly soaring past the one million units shipped mark.
Joining them this week is Square Enix’s remake of Dragon Quest VII which Famitsu reports has already shipped over a million units since being released on February 7th in Japan.
The 3DS version is based on the classic PSone title released in 2000 and features all-new graphics, an orchestral soundtrack and various other enhancements including StreetPass functionality.
We’ll be able to see just how well the game did during its opening week when Media Create publishes its software chart later this week.
Dragon Quest VII hasn’t been announced for Western territories yet but the game’s warm reception in Japan should encourage Square Enix to bring it overseas.
