Ubisoft today revealed incredibly impressive sales numbers for a range of the publisher’s games, with Assassin’s Creed III chief amongst it top sellers touting 12 million units shipped (and probably not a whole let less sold) around the world.
But what’s next for the Assassin’s Creed franchise following on from yet another overwhelming response to Ubisoft’s flagship series? Another Assassin’s Creed game, no doubt, but will it be a continuation of the last one?
Not necessarily, says Ubisoft, which also revealed today that the next Assassin’s Creed title will be set in a new time period and star a whole new character, which means we won’t be taking control of Connor and the possibility of leaving the Revolutionary War behind us (or setting it in front of players) is a very likely next step for the franchise.
The next title in the series is once again being developed across a multitude of Ubisoft studios around the world and is said to be introduced at E3 this year, with a release date in the publisher’s 2014 financial year (April 2013 to March 2014).
In addition, Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot was quoted as saying that the franchise will take a ‘major leap forward.’
Where do you want to see the Assassin’s Creed franchise go next? Forward or back? Ancient or modern? Japanese or Chinese history?
What did you think of Connor in Assassin’s Creed 3? Was he a likeable character or would you rather not see him return in a starring role?
