Rayman Legends is going multiplatform, delayed into September 2013Written by: / / No Comments
When it was first announced, Rayman Legends from Ubisoft was billed as a Wii U-exclusive action platformer that made full use of Nintendo’s unique GamePad controller with asynchronous gameplay touted as a major feature.
Today, however, Rayman Legends has been re-unveiled as a multiplatform game, with a release date delay confirmed with the news just to stir the pot a little more vigorously.
Rayman Legends is now not only coming to the Wii U, but will also make an appearance on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when the game makes its debut in “early” September 2013. All versions of the game are in development at Ubisoft Montpellier.
Ubisoft’s EMEA Chief Marketing & Sales Officer, Geoffroy Sardin, commented on the announcement by saying:
“We heard from many Xbox & PlayStation owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman Legends on their current system. We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game.”
We’re pretty sure Wii U owners would have a thing or two to say to their PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 counterparts…
What do you think of the news? And how about that release date delay? It was due out in the US on February 26th and March 1st in Europe, but now we’ll have to wait until September.
Does this move send a worrying message to Wii U owners (and Nintendo), as Ubisoft doesn’t see its game selling very well on the platform exclusively?
