Sony recently staged Killzone: Mercenary press events in Amsterdam, LA and Taipei to give journalists some hands-on time with what is shaping up to be PS Vita’s most anticipated game of 2013.
These press events were accompanied by the news that the Guerrilla Cambridge developed shooter will be released on September 17th in the US and a day later in European territories.
The game will feature a singleplayer campaign that reportedly takes roughly nine hours to complete and a “full-fledged” multiplayer mode boasting three different game types across six maps that support up to eight players.
Here’s a brief synopsis of Killzone: Mercenary’s plot:
“Starting just after the ending of the original Killzone, and revisiting many of the events from the Killzone trilogy, the game puts players in the rugged combat boots of a mercenary named Arran Danner. Danner is a former UCA-soldier who has no qualms about taking on paid contracts from the ISA as well as the Helghast.
“When a seemingly routine mission to evacuate the Vektan Ambassador and his family in Pyrrhus goes awry, Danner discovers that the outcome of the war could very well depend on the fate of the Ambassador’s young son. With both sides going through increasingly desperate lengths to get hold of the boy, he begins to wonder whether the price of victory is really worth the paycheck.”
Killzone: Mercenary runs on a modified Killzone 3 engine that fully supports PS Vita specific features such as touch-based stealth kills and gyro-assisted sniping.
