Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending January 27th: Wii U decline continues

Combined hardware sales are down 10% week over week on the latest Media Create chart. The 3DS XL and 3DS remain unmoved in first and second position respectively, while the PS3 is a distant third with 18 322 units sold during the past week. Interestingly, the PS Vita was the only console that enjoyed improved sales week over week – recording an 8% increase.

Meanwhile, Wii U hardware sales continue to slide to worryingly low levels due to there being a dearth of new software for the system. Sales should pick up from April onwards as compelling new titles are released, but the console still has an uncertain future ahead of it with the next PlayStation on the horizon and the 3DS currently dominating the console gaming landscape in Japan.
