During yesterday’s enormous and super exciting Nintendo Direct streaming event hosted by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and other company all-stars, we learned about a host of new Wii U games (not least of which is Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD!) and heard confirmations that classic franchises are currently in development for the console, while also finding out about a neat new feature for Pikmin 3.
While we’ll still be controlling various types of Pikmin through lush garden-like environments and defeating enormous insect creatures intent on gobbling up your little helpful critters, Nintendo will also allow you to take moments out from the action and snap in-game photos of the world and its denizens up close and from the floor of the game’s garden.
Using the Wii U GamePad, you’ll be able to aim and snap photos while in the game, from the perspective of the Pikmin themselves to get pictures of the landscape from the ground, before sharing those photos in MiiVerse!
Nintendo showcased some of the kinds of photos you’ll be able to take in the game, making for a glorious selection of safari-like images as we discover the Pikmin and other creatures in their natural habitat.
There’ll also be opportunities to take a series of photos, and in one sequence below we’re warned of what happens if you’re not completely focussed on the task of survival… very creepy indeed!
Pikmin 3 is due out exclusively on Wii U later this year – look over El33tonline’s previous coverage of the game for videos and more screenshots, but don’t miss the in-game photos below. This could become something of a MiiVerse obsession!
