Earlier in the week Gearbox Software released the third downloadable content pack for Borderlands 2. Titled Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, the new DLC introduced vault hunters to new loot, new quests, new enemies and even a new vehicle in a new land. Most players, however, were disappointed that it didn’t raise the level cap of the game.
Fear not though intrepid vault hunters, because reports suggest that we will be getting a level cap raise in the next few months. James Lopez, associate producer on Borderlands 2, spoke to the Official PlayStation Magazine and confirmed that a level cap raise will be coming “sometime in Q1.” This means it’s likely to happen by the end of March.
Lopez confirmed that the new Sir Hammerlock’s DLC does not lift the level cap, but that “they do have one planned, and it will be for quite a few levels which will allow you to play for quite a bit longer.”
Lopez went on to give a little insight into how they decide when to increase the level cap, which decision has been helped along by increased stat tracking in Borderlands 2.
“With Borderlands 1 we had to go by forum posts, and by checking out the number times certain achievements had been unlocked to really get an idea of where players were. But SHiFT allows us to see a lot more about the way players are playing the game, and see what they’re doing. We wanted to give people enough time to get at least one level 50 in there, and then see from there, how many people are doing this. Is this a good time for this? We also didn’t want to wait so long that people were no longer interested, or felt like it wasn’t coming.”
Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt DLC is available right now, and if you’ve got the Season Pass it’s absolutely free!
