Anarchy Reigns from SEGA and Platinum Games is now out and available around the world on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, finally allowing us to experience the developer’s vision for a ‘Multiplayer Brawling’ game after its initial announcement at the beginning of 2011.
But what is Anarchy Reigns?
Following the developer’s work on titles such as MadWorld, Bayonetta and Vanquish, Platinum Games turned turned its collective eye towards a new type of action game, where the over-the-top sequences and out-of-this-world manoeuvres found in the team’s previous games could be replicated in an online, head-to-head brawler.
In the singleplayer campaign of Anarchy Reigns, you’ll play through the story as either Leonhardt Victorion (representing The White Side) or Jack Cayman (representing The Black Side) as they hunt down a dangerous fugitive known as Maximillian Caxton across two interwoven plots.
In multiplayer, however, you’ll be able to dive into 16-player battles in a variety of different game modes, including Capture the Flag, regular deathmatch, tag team matches, Battle Royale, Survival and more.
Not only will players be facing off against real live opponents online while putting together flourishes of devastating attacks and sequences of bone-crushing moves, you’ll also be able to trigger special events that introduce even more overwhelming frenzy to the arenas, with black holes, giant spinning blades and tsunamis adding to the carnage. Hectic!

Executive Director and Producer at Platinum Games, Atsushi Inaba, said of Anarchy Reigns’ release:
“We are excited to see the game reaching the Western audience. Anarchy Reigns is an ambitious project for PlatinumGames, as we wanted to challenge ourselves by creating a new genre, Multiplayer Brawling.
“You could play the game as a one-on-one fighter, but Anarchy Reigns truly comes alive when multiplayer characters are locked in chaotic battles. We look forward to global anarchy online once everyone gets a hold of the game.”
Here Comes a New Challenger!
A Multiplayer Brawler would be nothing without a good collection of personalities, though, and Anarchy Reigns has no less than 17 playable characters for you to sort through and find a favourite. Here they all are with their vital statistics included – which character will you play as?
