Cyberpunk 2077 teaser trailer accompanies new details from the futureWritten by: / / No Comments
CD Projeckt RED has released a promised teaser trailer for the developer’s next RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, revealing a dark vision of the future where augmented humans go on killing sprees and ‘Braindances’ are as common as Gangnam Style.
Let’s begin with the trailer, though. In the world of Cyberpunk 2077, you’re able to augment and improve your own body with technological implants – a process that will earn you the derisive name of ‘psycho.’ The problem is that if you overdose on these enhancements, there’s a strong chance your body will begin to act on its own against your will, resulting in a ‘rampage.’
When a psycho rampages, it often leads to destruction and the loss of innocent lives, even as the local police forces impotently attempt to put a stop to it. When regular law enforcement can’t put down a psycho, it’s up to the special forces unit, MAX-TAC (Maximum Force Tactical Division), also known as the Psycho Squad, to clean up. In the teaser trailer below, you can see the tragic results of a rampage:

Pretty dang awesome.
Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in a dark, grim future indeed and according to the game’s tagline, in this future “We didn’t get rid of our problems; we multiplied them.”
“Tech advancement went hand in hand with the decay of society,” writes CD Projeckt RED. “Body augmentations invented to serve society simply multiplied the problems, and sometimes lead to mayhem on the streets. New inventions led to addictions and poverty became an even larger problem.”
Taking place in the world of ‘Night City,’ Cyberpunk 2077 follows the story of an individual who has for years tried to survive on the streets in amongst ‘boostergangs’ and against the encroachment of megacorporations, but there are more than drugs, violence and poverty to deal with in the “city of filth and sin,” including ‘Braindances:’
“Braindances are digital recordings of a person’s experience. The viewer can stream a braindance directly into his neural system via special brain augmentations, called a BD player. Braindances allow the viewer to experience all brain processes registered, including emotions, muscle movements and all stimuli perceived by the recording person.”
Braindances can be recordings of something as innocent as someone else riding on a rollercoaster, but there are more sinister recordings to be found in the underground. “Entering the mind of a serial killer means not only seeing the monstrosity he performs, but also living his lust to kill and fulfilment.”
Before we get the next lot of Cyberpunk 2077 information on February 5th, CD Projeckt RED leaves us with this charming message:
“This is the world of 2077. The gap between high and low is bigger than ever. Drugs, violence, braindance, psychos on the loose… Will you be able to function in this defunct society or end up a BD-junky with nothing left, set aside like garbage – still living someone’s else life –not aware of what’s going on around you? Whether you like it or not – this is the age of braindance decadence; this is Cyberpunk 2077.”
