Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending January 6th: 3DS passes the 10 million mark

The first Media Create hardware chart of 2013 features some impressive figures, particularly in the case of the 3DS, PS3, PSP and PS Vita. While Wii U sales are down slightly week-over-week, Sony’s systems and the two 3DS models all enjoyed healthy gains compared to last week’s numbers.

3DS Next To 3DS XL

The 3DS’ latest tally of 279 259 units took overall sales to over 10 million units since the handheld made its debut in Japan almost two years ago. The system looks set to pass overall Wii sales (12.6 million units) sometime this year and then close in on the PSP’s tally of 19.7 million units.

PS2 sales fell to an all-time low this week due to constrained stock levels after Sony discontinued production of this best-selling home console.
