Google’s top searches of 2012 include ‘Play Station,’ Diablo III, Minecraft

What trending topics were at the forefront of the world’s collective mind this year? Which sizzling subjects contributed to the zeitgeist?

Google has once again revealed the top searched and trending topics of the year, this time for 2012, and while tragedies, personalities, performing artists, athletes and gadgets topped the lists of most popular search items on the internet, a few videogame subjects slipped their way into the charts, too.

In terms of global searches, Diablo III made it into the fifth position ahead of Kate Middleton and after iPad 3 – here’s the full list:

Top Global Searches

  • Whitney Houston
  • Gangnam Style
  • Hurricane Sandy
  • iPad 3
  • Diablo 3
  • Kate Middleton
  • Olympics 2012
  • Amanda Todd
  • Michael Clarke Duncan

In the top searched images, however, Minecraft appeared in number eight ahead of Nicki Minaj, but following Harry Styles – here’s that list:

And what about consumer electronics? The search term ‘Play Station’ showed up at No. 6 in amongst devices like the Samsung Galaxy S3, iPad 4 and Galaxy Note 2 – here’s that list:
