The Secret World goes free-to-play, new trailer invites you to exploreWritten by: / / No Comments
Less than six months following the release of EA and Funcom’s The Secret World in July, the massively multiplayer online game has become free-to-play after initially being launched as a monthly subscription-based title.
‘Pay Once, Play Forever’ the latest trailer for The Secret World exclaims, with promises of being able to enjoy all of the content of the game without “having to commit to a subscription.”
Game director Joel Bylos commented on the announcement:
“With this recent change there is no reason not to join and take part in ‘The Secret World.’ Most players end up having a ton of fun once they delve into the myths and legends of ‘The Secret World’, and we believe the game has the potential to be even more successful without the subscription entry barrier. It is an ambitious and very exciting move for us!”
Following launch, the development team has released four major updates to The Secret World with new content, and these free updates are promised to continue. If you choose to be a subscriber to The Secret World, however, you’ll get the following bonuses:
- 10 USD/EUR per month which can be spent in the in-game store
- The ‘Time Accelerator’ item that grants double experience gain for one hour each day
- A fixed 10% discount to everything in the in-game store
- And more.
