Sony has revealed details of how many PS3 and PS Vita consoles were sold during Black Friday week in the US.
According to the publisher, 525 000 PS3 units were sold between November 18th and November 24th. Bundle sales increased by 15% year-on-year, not surprising given that the 250GB Uncharted Dual Pack and inFamous Collection, priced at $199, sold out at retailers across the US during this week.
Total sales of PS3 hardware, software and peripherals were up by 9% over the same period last year. More gamers are signing up for PlayStation Plus as well, with subscriptions for the PlayStation Network climbing by an incredible 259% when compared to last year’s Black Friday period, fuelled by the Instant Game Collection no doubt.
The PS Vita sold 160 000 units for the Black Friday week. The Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation bundle, priced at $199, sold out at retail, with Amazon selling through its specially priced inventory in under five hours. The Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified and LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes PS Vita bundles were the other two popular choices and also sold out at retail during the week.
Sony’s President and CEO Jack Tretton said, “We’re very pleased with the Black Friday sales results, especially the incredible reception for the PS3 and PS Vita bundles. The demand was very strong which quickly depleted our inventory across retailers nationwide.”
Tretton went on to say that “The PlayStation brand generated significant revenue and year-over-year growth at retail because of our focus on what gamers love most in combining amazing hardware with great games and digital entertainment.”
