H33rsay: 2013′s Call of Duty is Modern Warfare 4, and, Microsoft’s Xbox SurfaceWritten by: / / No Comments
“Rumour has it (Rumour) Rumour has it (Rumour) Rumour has it (Rumour) Rumour has it (Rumour)”
Two rather juicy portions of rumour recently found their way onto the great Internet Slab, one concerning the future of the Call of Duty series, and the other, Microsoft’s future in mobile gaming and devices.
At the of urging FoxOneZA, we’re going to have a look…
The next Call of Duty, or, do we want Modern Warfare 4?
The first rumour we’ll deal with is that of an information leak concerning the next game in the Call of Duty series, now believed to be Modern Warfare 4.
Of course, this would follow naturally from 2011’s Modern Warfare 3 and fit the alternating development schedule of Treyarch and Infinity Ward, but does it suit the franchise? I don’t know about you, but Modern Warfare 3 wrapped up that story arc nicely – wouldn’t a new Call of Duty series be in order?
Nevertheless, SiliconEra is reporting that an unnamed source (who has been accurate with secret information before) has uncovered news of ‘Call of Duty 2013,’ said to be set in the Modern Warfare universe, starring a “battle hardened veteran in his mid-thirties with a nihilistic point of view.” Long-time franchise protagonist John ‘Soap’ MacTavish is also set to make an appearance in the game during a flashback.
You can find additional details on this rumour over at SiliconEra.
Xbox Surface, or, Microsoft’s push into handheld gaming
What’s the other big piece of gaming-related rumour news? Microsoft is working on a so-called ‘Xbox Surface’ device, a 7-inch gaming tablet that is currently in final planning and hardware development stages
Testing and development of this gaming tablet is said to be on-going and conducted in absolute secrecy, with Microsoft even going so far as to employ the use of different production partners than usual to keep news of the device’s progress under wraps.
You can read more about this supposed Xbox Surface gaming tablet at The Verge.
What are your thoughts on these prospective futures for handheld gaming and the Call of Duty franchise? Would you rather see a new story arc being implemented for Infinity Ward’s next game? Do you think another tablet device could survive in the market?
Let us know.
