Xbox 360 transformed a country to launch Halo 4 yesterday, taking over iconic landmarks in the Principality of Liechtenstein to create a real-life replica of the Halo universe.
The tranquil mountains of Liechtenstein were changed into a futuristic universe direct from the Halo franchise, which Microsoft recently revealed has sold 46 million copies worldwide since its launch in 2001.
70 media and super-fans from 16 countries took part in Experience Halo, they began their journey by travelling to a top secret location before being “unexpectedly thrust into a war zone which recreated brutal battle grounds through pyrotechnic explosions, thunderous sound effects and cinematic set builds.”
The makeover for Liechtenstein included reimagining the 13th Century Castle, standing on a 70 metre high spur of rock, to be a futuristic military fortification where guests could play Halo 4. The working mine was transformed into an arena for sci-fi adventure, including an appearance from Master Chief amidst pyrotechnic explosions, while the local farmer’s field became a post-apocalyptic military camp in the countryside.
Guests were also taken on a two hour adventure with 15 actors in a theatre where they had to decode a series of clues to help save mankind from extinction by fighting off the threat of an attack.
