From October 5th to the 7th in Johannesburg at the Coca-Cola Dome, El33tonline and leading South African ADSL service provider Afrihost left an indelible mark on this year’s edition of rAge, South Africa’s premiere videogame and technology expo.
In a series of feature articles, members of El33tonline talk about their experiences at rAge 2012 and mention a few of their favourite things about this year’s event.
El33tonline’s Battlefield 3 Community leader Pieter (also known around these parts and online as POItjie) continues our look back at rAge 2012 with his thoughts on the show and his highlights:
Pieter’s experiences at rAge 2012
This year rAge 2012 was the biggest one for me yet. Let me start by giving you a small back story. A week before rAge 2011, I stumbled onto El33tonline’s awesome website, entered the one competition they were running, it was for Burnout Crash for XBLA. Then on Thursday before that weekend I discovered El33tonline are from Durban. It blew me away. I just had to meet them at rAge, so we did, and that changed my life forever.
I won’t go into all of the details of what happened in the past year, but I will tell you about rAge 2012. The first awesome thing about this year’s rAge was that we were going to be there for all three days and not just two. I was super excited to see the Halo 4 stand and over the moon when El33t asked me to write the preview for them, it is a huge honour.
The other big highlight of rAge for me was meeting Daniel from DICE and spending over an hour with him talking about Battlefield 3 and how he is enjoying his stay in South Africa. Another awesome Battlefield 3 related thing was hearing that we were challenged by Team SASS. The weekend was just overloaded with geekness. Meeting all the El33t P33ps and hanging around the El33t stand seeing them give away stuff was priceless. Those crowds scared me!
I was actually amazed by how many people knew who I was, it was a great feeling. I really enjoyed all the games they had on offer, but Halo 4 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter were top of the list. Having my photo taken with Master Chief was so cool. I also had some fun with Smuroh at the Hitman stand and the Toxic Bunny HD stand, the people there were awesome fun. So looking forward to next year and can’t wait to do it all over again.
I was also lucky enough to win a Angry Bird for my little girl and it was super funny when Matt hit me behind the head trying to win one too. Was epic fun. Just want to say thanks to El33tonline for having such an awesome stand this year, we had some great fun, even though they never gave in to let us know where the stickers where. See you all next year.
