Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending October 14th: PS Vita numbers at all-time low

This week’s Media Create hardware chart sees the 3DS and 3DS XL team up to make a mockery of the rest of the field. With 79 300 units sold during the latest sales period alone, this power couple will be hard to beat going into the holiday season.

3DS Next To 3DS XL

The PS3 and PSP continue to occupy the third and fourth spots on the chart respectively, while the PS Vita managed to hold off the Wii to claim fifth place. Sony’s handheld recorded its lowest ever sales figure this week – just 6 134 units. I’m personally surprised that Japanese consumers are not buying more PS Vita systems when you consider all the great games that are already available for it, including a huge back catalogue of PSP and PSone titles. At this point in time it appears that a price drop is needed sooner rather than later to reignite interest in the handheld and get more Japanese developers designing games for it.
