If you visited El33tonline’s stand at rAge this past weekend you may have noticed a large crowd gathered around the TV on the right side of the area. This influx of visitors to our stand was generated by a number of FIFA 13 tournaments that were held during the three days that the expo ran for, with plenty of awesome prizes being handed out to the proud winners of these events!
Russell and I were the two people overseeing these tournaments and at various points during the expo we worked together to determine which prizes should be handed out for which events and how to effectively run the main tournament that took place at 12:15pm on Saturday.
Some of the prizes we had the luxury of giving away included awesome FIFA 13 T-shirts and copies of the game on PSP, PS2 and Xbox 360. We also tried to ensure that every person who participated in one of our tournaments got a snazzy blue El33tonline pen to remember us by.
During the three days of rAge we must have hosted around ten mini-tournaments consisting of two 1 vs 1 4-minute rounds and a final. It was amazing how many of these matches went into extra time, and a few of them even had to be decided by a penalty shootout!
There was such a high level of participation in and enthusiasm shown towards these mini-tournaments that we hosted a massive 32-player tournament on Saturday, with the winner being awarded FIFA 13 on Xbox 360. This tournament consisted of eight 2 vs 2 rounds, 2 vs 2 quarterfinals, 2 vs 2 semifinals, a 2 vs 2 final, and lastly a 1 vs 1 match that saw the two winners facing off against one another for the ultimate title of ‘El33tonline FIFA 13 Champion’. Needless to say this tournament was a massive undertaking and took over three hours to complete! Interestingly, a pair of brothers made it to the final with the younger of the two emerging victorious. Clearly the youngster has some serious FIFA skills and is sure to have a bright competitive gaming future ahead of him.
A big thank you to everyone who took part in our FIFA 13 tournaments and congratulations to all the winners! It was awesome to see how much fun people had playing FIFA 13 competitively and experiencing the raw emotion of their victories and defeats right there beside them. Lastly, thanks to our prize sponsor EA South Africa who provided participants with a great incentive to bring their ‘A Game’ to the virtual football field.
