This past Saturday a slice of Durban’s gaming community gathered at the Pizzetta Pizzeria in Glenwood for DBNGamers’ tenth event, aptly titled “Ch1ll0ut”. There were no speakers or presentations at this month’s get together so the afternoon was all about relaxation, fun, and spending some quality time with the friendly DBNGamers peeps.
It was perfect weather for chilling on Pizzetta Pizzeria’s covered veranda and it wasn’t long before the venue was brimming with familiar faces from the DBNGamers community and imbued with the sound of conversation and laughter.
El33tonline’s Editor-in-Chief Lisa had kindly brought along a Mario-themed birthday cake to share with everyone and this was enjoyed alongside the great food and drink available at the restaurant.
DBNGamers organiser Pieter (a.k.a. POItjie) provided some Xbox 360 consoles, controllers and peripherals along with Trials Evolution and Guitar Hero 3, and these proved extremely popular attractions as the afternoon wore on.
Guitar Hero 3 was played on a big screen in plain sight of the DBNGamers group and this was a constant source of entertainment as players of different skill levels stepped up to the proverbial plate to show the crowd what they were capable of.
As the shadows lengthened and the kick-off of the Springbok’s crucial match against the Wallabies rapidly approached, Pieter announced the winners of the random draw that we signed up for at the beginning of the event. Prizes were sponsored by EA South Africa, Xbox 360 South Africa and kalahari.com, and ranged from copies of Madden NFL 13 to Xbox LIVE Arcade codes for games like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD and Braid.
Once all the prizes had been handed out we gathered for one last photo (see top) before being faced with the choice to linger a little longer at the venue or head home.
DBNGamers Ch1ll0ut was a great success thanks to an excellent turnout and keen participation in the gaming sessions that were staged during the event. Thanks to everyone who attended our latest meet-up (special mention goes to the wives and children who came along) and we’re all looking forward to seeing you again next month!
