Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending September 16th: 3DS leads a fatigued field

The latest Media Create hardware numbers reveal that overall sales are down by 28% compared to the same period last year, and are 5 579 units less than last week’s tally. The two models of 3DS once again outperformed their rivals by a substantial margin, with the PS3 lagging far behind in third place.

PS Vita sales continue to exceed those of the PSP, but Sony’s latest handheld is currently struggling to maintain momentum without the consistent release of popular titles.

Certain retailers in Japan have stopped selling Xbox 360 hardware altogether which explains why it sold 34% less units than the PS2 this week.
