The Final Fantasy XIII saga may not be the most highly regarded entry in this long-running franchise but with over 9 million copies sold there’s no denying that FFXIII and FFXIII-2 have a substantial fan base. Square Enix recently announced that a third Final Fantasy XIII game is in development which sees the spotlight return to FFXIII’s leading lady Lightning.
“Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII” is being developed for PS3 and Xbox 360 and is scheduled to be released during 2013 in Japan. It will be the final entry in the Final Fantasy XIII series and sees Motomu Toriyama reprise his role as director on the project.
The game is set some time after the events of FFXIII-2 and takes place in a new location called Novus Partus which is comprised of four islands connected by a monorail system.
