Earlier today Konami and Kojima Productions staged the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event where, as we speculated earlier this week, the next entry in the Metal Gear Solid series was unveiled.
The game is currently known as Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and is reportedly being developed for current generation consoles and PCs. Twenty minutes of real-time gameplay was demoed during the event which depicted MGS3 and MGS: Peace Walker’s protagonist Big Boss (a.k.a. Naked Snake) sneaking through a military base. Attendees reported that the demo featured an expansive environment which had open-world elements like being able to drive a jeep around. If MGS: Ground Zeroes is indeed an open-world game then this will mark the first time in the series that players have been afforded the type of gameplay freedom that’s a hallmark of this genre.
The game is built on Kojima Production’s in-house Fox Engine, which is said to speed up the process of game development and to be designed with the next generation of gaming hardware in mind.
Here are the first images of Snake’s new ‘look’ in MGS: Ground Zeroes:
Hopefully Kojima Productions will release official screenshots and footage from the game in the coming days so we can see Snake’s latest sneaking mission for ourselves.
