Few will deny that thatgamecompany’s PlayStation Network adventure title Journey is one of the most artistically impressive games of all time. It’s unusual to play a game where practically every frame wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery but this is most certainly the case when it comes to Journey.
Fans of the game’s visual style will be able to indulge their senses in Journey’s captivating art work with The Art of Journey hardcover book, due out in September.
Designed and written by the game’s art director Matthew Nava, this book will provide an “insider’s view into the stylistic influences, narrative functions, and game design goals that shaped the final look of the game” while “readers will discover how Journey’s landscapes, cut-scenes, and much-loved robed traveler came to be.”
The book will also feature concept art, pencil drawings, 3D models as well as a special fan art section showcasing some of thatgamecompany’s favourite community-created, Journey-inspired art.
In addition, The Art of Journey will feature an innovative augmented reality section powered by the Daqri 4D platform available for certain smartphones and tablets. This AR feature will provide readers with an interactive look at some of the 3D models from the game.
Finally, the book will come with a voucher that can be redeemed on the PlayStation Store to download Journey’s beautiful soundtrack on PS3.
