The PS Vita hasn’t sold as well as Sony would have hoped during its first six months on the market, with part of the reason for this being its comparatively high price.
Many people in the industry have called on Sony to cut the Vita’s price in order to accelerate sales but recent statements by president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida have revealed that there won’t be a price drop this year.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Yoshida said that Sony’s engineers are working on ways to make the PS Vita cheaper to produce but this year is just too early for a price cut.
He also stated that PS Vita bundles were one way Sony was trying to provide consumers with better bang for their buck:
“This year we are trying to add value by creating different types of bundles. We announced we will provide LittleBigPlanet PS Vita bundle pack. That’s affordable for people who are looking for a good deal.”
