What a week it’s been! After a bit of a quiet spell in the videogame world, a deluge of announcements and trailers have unexpectedly rained down upon us – kind of like walking through a door that’s been rigged up to tip a bucket of water onto your head.

This week we also had some heavy snowfalls around different parts of our country, and thankfully yesterday’s public holiday (National Women’s Day) came at a perfect time for some of us to visit the snow with the lovely ladies in our lives.

Four members of the El33tonline family jetted off this afternoon to the land of bratwurst, sauerkraut and excessively talented football strikers – Germany. Next week Lisa, Wayne, Oliver and Peter will be attending gamescom and are currently champing at the bit to bring all you El33t p33ps comprehensive coverage of this awesome event. We wish them all the best on their travels and hope that their trip is filled with highlights that they’ll share with us both during and after their expedition to Europe.

In the meantime, here’s what some of us will be getting up to this weekend:

Lisa

“Today our gamescom team embarks upon a journey that has been months in the planning. We have a schedule full of appointments, interviews and press conferences, and we’re going to be (very) busy next week bringing you live updates via Twitter, Facebook and our Liveblogs, as well as pictures from the showfloor. If there’s anything you’d like us to see or find out more about while we’re at gamescom, let us know and we’ll do our best to make it happen. We appreciate your support so don’t be a stranger now, you hear!

I’m looking forward to catching up on some handheld time on my trusty 3DS on the plane trip over, and next week the list of games that I will be seeing and playing is mighty indeed, so stay tuned!”

“It’s astounding.

Time is fleeting.

It feels like just yesterday my buddy Oltman became a father and no sooner have we celebrated that wonderful “coming-of-age” story that I realise I have six weeks to go before I become a father for the second time! I honestly can’t tell you where the time has gone and I honestly can’t tell you that I feel ready or that I am prepared.

The weekend is a quiet one on the gaming front for me – I’ll try to squeeze in a three player co-op session of Dead Island with my mates and do some house cleaning to prepare the baby room for my son. I’ll also catch up on the Olympic Games and South Africa’s dwindling hopes for more medals and celebrate my baby girl’s 600th day on the planet (feet on the planet, so to speak).

Brace yourselves for another chilly week ahead – enjoy the sun while you can! Catch you on the beach on Saturday maybe …”

“My sincere apologies el33t p33ps for not reporting on 2upGamers 8th Lap; I was otherwise caught up on the stage myself! But please refer to our friends Zombiegamer & ITF Gaming for their informed view on the event. As for my weekend, hoping to get the Gecosports website up by then but on a higher note; LAN party at Gecosports! The SA Gamer forum Old Skool Console LAN will be taking place this Saturday the 11th August, at 7pm. Currently there are a few spots left so if you want to join, give me a shout! We might even get a cameo appearance from the Cape Town Showdown Fight Club as well, so this Saturday is shaping up to be an awesome day!”

“Yesterday’s public holiday has got me in the mood for some good old-fashioned R & R so I’ll be looking for plenty of opportunities to relax over the weekend.

Kingdom Hearts 3D took me a bit longer to finish than I initially thought it would (around 18 hours) so I’m going to get busy with my review now that it’s done and dusted. Next on my “to review” list is Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS Vita. From what I’ve played so far it feels like another stellar conversion of MGS2 and MGS3 so I’m looking forward to delving deeper into both of these classic PS2 titles.

There’s not too much sport happening this weekend (as far as I’m aware) so it might be a good time for me to catch up on this week’s Olympics highlights.

Stay safe p33ps!”
