Following its surprise announcement in June, the Nintendo 3DS XL is now available in Europe and South Africa!

Sporting a 90 percent larger screen than its older sibling, the original Nintendo 3DS, the brand new Nintendo 3DS XL is currently available in three brilliant colours: Red, silver and blue.

Having seen them all to compare and contrast, it’s certainly tough to decide which of the colours is an El33tonline favourite:

Not only are the screens bigger this time around, but the battery life has been improved, too, allowing for many more hours of mobile gaming than Nintendo’s previous handheld console.

The 3DS XL also comes standard with a 4GB SD Card, which affords more space for things like photos (both 3D and otherwise), save games, software downloaded from the Nintendo eShop, videos and more.

If you’re familiar with the functionality of the original Nintendo 3DS, you’ll be pleased to know that all of those features are still present and accounted for in the 3DS XL, with glasses-free 3D gaming, the ability to capture 3D photos and videos, take advantage of the system’s Augmented Reality and social applications, grab demos and downloads from the eShop and more.

El33tonline and the community of gamers in Durban, South Africa were amongst the very first in the world to sample the 3DS XL with our launch of the handheld last night, July 27th – you can get a sneak peek at the festivities of the evening with a selection of photos at our Facebook page, as attendees competed for the chance to win a 3DS XL for themselves!

We’ll have more photos and details from the Durban launch event for the Nintendo 3DS XL in the coming days – look forward to it!
