With E3 done and dusted, it’s now time to turn our attention to “the world’s largest trade fair and event highlight for interactive games and entertainment” – gamescom. This year’s event will once again take place in Cologne, Germany, and runs from 15 – 19 August. Of course El33tonline will be there to bring you all the latest news and coverage from the event.
Unfortunately a number of publishers and even platform holders have already confirmed that they’ll be missing gamescom 2012. These include SEGA, THQ, Nintendo and Microsoft. A Microsoft representative explained the company’s choice as follows:
“In the lead up to the launch of Halo 4, Gears of War: Judgment, Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey and Dance Central 3, among other titles and entertainment experiences, Xbox is focusing on smaller, more-localized experiences for customers, partners, retailers and press around the world.
“As a result, Xbox will not be exhibiting directly at gamescom in Cologne, Germany in August this year. Selected Xbox titles will still be showcased by our publishing partners at the event, and we wish the BIU well for the show.”
The good news is that Sony and EA will both be in attendance, with the latter confirming its presence at the event via the following press release:
“Electronic Arts is set to delight consumers from around the word at gamescom 2012. The company’s top brands will be in Cologne this August to showcase the latest first person shooter, action, sports, simulation and casual titles across multiple platforms. EA is set to unveil new content and services from its best loved franchises including FIFA 13, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Crysis 3, SimCity, and others.
“‘Gamescom is a pillar for our industry’, said Jens Uwe Intat, Senior Vice President of EA European Publishing. ‘The show is truly unique in its capacity to draw both industry and consumers to a showcase of the year’s hottest entertainment offerings and we’re looking forward to being there in force again in 2012’.”
